2013 Cadillac ATS (I LOVED THIS CAR)

As Cadillac developed a bit more and figured more things out through the 2000’s, I found myself drawn to a Cadillac ATS.  It was silver with chrome wheels, and it just looked gorgeous.  This car may be my all-time favorite car that I ever owned.  It was small, nimble and was the 3.6, so it wasn’t blazing but it was quick enough.  It just felt done right, the way the doors closed, no rattles at all, the way it felt to be in the car and the way it drove.  Cadillac was really starting to figure this all out.

This car may be my all-time favorite car that I ever owned.

The one thing I was concerned about is that this car was a rear wheel drive.  It’s also why I got such a good deal on the car. Again, I think there’s this misperception out there that rear-wheel-drive cars are terrible in the snow. I have to say I put winter tires on this car, and I’ve had SUV’s and AWD cars, and this was by far the best handling snow car I never had. I never felt unsafe. I never felt it get squirrely. I never felt the least bit out of control in this car in the winter. It truly changed my opinion on rear-wheel-drive vehicles.

I didn’t want to get rid of it, ever. However, my son had started playing club soccer and we were driving to these distant locations and many of the locations had dirt parking lots, and in the winter dirt parking lots become mud parking lots. I found myself annoyed as we were going to these games. I realized the issue was me. I didn’t want to see my car get used that way. So, in an effort not to ever be angry at my son, it’s not his fault, I decided to sell it and buy an SUV.

My heart broke a little bit that day as I traded in the Cadillac for a Kia. But I grew up with someone who made the cars more important than the people. That was a lesson I learned as a little kid. I realized how wrong that was for me. And that I would never do that. While I’ve been blessed to have a lot of cars, a lot of cool cars, I’ve never once put a car ahead of people.  I may have bought one when I shouldn’t have but whenever it was even an issue, the car ALWAYS went away.
