1969 Cadillac Deville

Around the time that I was selling the XLR, I had inherited a 1969 Cadillac Deville. It was one of those big boats that was 23 feet long, felt like you were driving on a cloud. It felt like you were driving a piece of history every time you drove. And, and effect I was. I had one of the few Cadillac’s made in that year that did not have air conditioning. Given that the car was black and about 1,000,000 miles long, it made warm days a little bit uncomfortable.

It was one of those big boats that was 23 feet long, felt like you were driving on a cloud.

How does anyone review a 1969 Cadillac. The car is what the car is it has a massive V8 engine in it. But it needs that massive engine to move the massive car. One of my daughter’s biggest shocks, was as she was starting to drive, was I took her to the gas station and had her fill up the Cadillac. One she was amazed at the location of the gas filled pipe, which if you don’t know is behind the rear license plate. But the bigger surprise, was when she watched as the dollars went by kind of like on the prices right spin the wheel portion. My daughter’s car cost $30 to fill up. This car costs that much to fill up from 3/4 of a tank.  Because of the location of the gas fill up, and the length of the car, you had to be very specific in the pump you chose, otherwise you were going to stop up traffic until you were done. Which, based on the size of the gas tank could be anywhere from 5 minutes to 10minutes!

My daughter drove the car for about four weeks when hers was in for some repairs, and she loved driving the car. It in fact, she got pulled over one day by a local police officer on her way to school. She thought she was in a lot of trouble, he just wanted to see who owned the car and talk a little bit about the car.

Now 1969 Cadillac’s are carbureted cars and sometimes that means they’re a little bit “touchy “.  The car stalled on her mid turn at an intersection once. Nothing unexpected from a 1969 car, but something she handled very well.

The one thing I liked about the car the most was the fact that I could take the entire family in it. And when I say the entire family, I don’t mean just my family, I mean my mom, my brothers, their kids.  I think my first studio apartment might have been smaller than this car!
