23 Nov 2007 Dodge Caliber
After the experience at the airport, I realized I had to grow up again and get a real car. So, I started looking at dealerships for what I might want. For a time I drove a lot of dodges and Chryslers, and people who knew me asked why I ended up doing that considering how much I loved Cadillac’s and Porsches. Well, here’s why. One day while I was at a dealership helping to pick up family who had their Carrie inferno oil change, I realized my car was not starting. That neon was having that issue again and would not turn over. I realized I was in a lot of trouble and was never going to get any money for the car at all. So, knowing I could get the carter start one more time, I walked into the dealership and picked out a dodge caliber. It was brand new and was a manual transmission. And in that moment that was enough for me.
It was brand new, and was a manual transmission. And in that moment that was enough for me.
So, I managed to get the neon started drove it around and traded the car in immediately. I’m assuming the dealership didn’t care because they were probably going to throw the neon directly into a trash compactor anyway. But that led me down my path of Chryslers and dodges.
What can I say about the Caliber? Well, it was a brand-new car when I needed a car and wasn’t gonna keep costing me money to fix it and repair it. For the first time I realized I was going to have a car payment for the rest of my life. And I was OK with that. However, I also realized this might be the most underpowered car I had had since the Astre. And there was no way I could keep a car that underpowered. There’s one hill in town it’s not that big of a hill, but I had to downshift on the hill to keep it going up. It reminded me of my mom’s very first Volkswagen Beetle where we all literally had to lean forward to get it up the hills. Or, where we would shut the radio off in hopes that it would give us more power.
