2005 Cadillac XLR

Ever since they came out, I had really liked the looks of the Cadillac XLR. Basically, it’s a Cadillac convertible, built on the C6 Corvette chassis.  It looked like nothing else out there. Plus, for me, it was the best of all worlds. The feel of a Cadillac, with the chassis of a Corvette.  What a perfect marriage.

Unfortunately, I purchased an XLR and not an XLR-V.  The difference was the engine.  The XLR had a 4.6 V8 that pushed 320HP, 310 Foot pounds of torque; not bad.  The V however, had a 4.4 V8 that pushed 443 HP, 414 Foot Pounds of Torque.  That difference is HUGE!

Unfortunately, I purchased an XLR and not an XLR-V. The difference was the engine.

I didn’t get the V, one because they were very hard to find and second, I had found a mint condition XLR in an estate sale that I bought.  This car was basically brand new. When we went to New Jersey to pick the car up, any thought of trying to negotiate went out the window, when we saw that the car was stored basically in a car museum. The seller was holding it and selling it for a best friend’s widow.  This garage had some of the most amazing and rare cars I have ever seen in it. And every single one of them looked brand new. In fact, we spent more time talking about the cars that were in the garage, it really was set up as a car museum comment than we did about the actual car.

The car drove well for the time that I had it. It was a fun convertible to drive around in. I loved being in the car. I love driving cars that not everybody has. However, I couldn’t shake the fact that somewhere out there is this exact car only a little bit more exotic. At that time, I was going to car shows a lot, and a gentleman from my town purchased the car from me from the car show. It was a great car, fun to drive. But if you are ever considering an XLR come and do yourself a favor and get the XLR – V.
