After the Astra broke, I ended up in my brother’s pickup for a year at college. This thing was awesome, a black pickup with a 4 speed. I loved it. I think I ended up in it because it was 2WD, not great in winter. Which was fine, except I went to school in Western Mass and pretty much all it does there from October to April is snow. And everywhere was a hill of some sort. RANT – It’s this truck that still makes me question this whole stigma of rear-wheel-drive cars in the winter. It was a pickup with zero weight in the back and 2WD, yet somehow, I managed to survive a winter in Western Mass with it. Look, AWD is great for putting even power down on all four wheels but it’s really marketing that we need AWD in the winter. Get good tires and you’ll be fine – cars are so much better balanced today.
My brother’s truck that I somehow commandeered for a year of college.
However, the truck did have some loose gearing and sometimes you just had to be thoughtful when shifting.
We made a poor choice and decided, after waiting for a long time to walk out from a bowling alley. We never intended to bolt on a bill, but we were waiting for easily 5 minutes and the guy behind the counter literally sat and cleaned shoes the entire time. It was as if we weren’t there; there was at least 8 of us. So, one of the groups decided we should just go, and after a minute or two, we stupidly decided to go.
Who do they catch as I am backing out and getting slightly stuck going from reverse to first gear – THIS GUY. We did decide on the way home, that what we did was not cool and turned around and paid. However, that information had not gotten to the Sherriff’s department. Why? Because they were sitting in my driveway, with my mother as we arrived. Let’s just say I kinda was hoping they would take us to jail so we didn’t; must keep listening to the yelling 😊
